BOPDSA has provided a speciality service for the education and development of children with learning disability and Down syndrome since 2004. It identifies with the vision of the New Zealand Curriculum through the practical application and implementation of the curriculum alongside the lived experience of children with a disability and diverse population groups. This is in order to ensure this group of young people have access to the opportunities to learn at each step in the curriculum, and live full and satisfying lives.

This NEX offers collaborative teaching or learning approaches, practicality of learning contexts, support for maximising student engagement, exemplars and an educational development forum for ideas and vision.
